Enrollment

Fees
Our fees are really simple to understand and are based on the quality and experience of the teacher you decide to learn with. We have three grades of teacher to choose from: Heads of Department, Senior and Standard but they are all either professionally qualified, experienced performers or teachers or both. (View Teaching Faculty). For our group classes we charge a set fee per session irrespective of subject or teacher.

Enrolling
If you wish to consider enrolling at BMA, your first step should be to complete a pre-registration form either manually or online (see registration page). Upon receipt of the completed form we will contact you to arrange an enrolment visit where our senior receptionist will give you a tour of the school and answer any questions you may have. After that you will meet either the Head of Department for your chosen instrument or the BMA Principal who will discuss with you various options regarding the length, frequency and day and time of lessons, the level of commitment required and recommend a suitable teacher.

So Who Will Be My Teacher?
Our teaching faculty is divided into three grades and students are able to choose at which level to be taught according to their budget and level of commitment. However, ALL our teachers are professional musicians who perform regularly.

Final Enrolment
The final step is for the Principal or Head of Department to carry out a five minute assessment with you. This is to establish what level of rhythm and pitch you possess so that your teacher can be given an indication as to how to start you off on the right foot. You will then be asked to sign the enrolment form agreeing to the BMA terms and conditions and pay the non-refundable RM75-00 registration fee and the fee for your first lesson. (Thereafter fees are payable termly in advance).

After Your First Lesson
Hurray! You’ve successfully completed your first lesson at Bentley Music Academy and you’re looking forward to your next. You will be asked to settle your fees for your first term based on the individual instruction package agreed.

What Else Can I Get Involved With?
As you continue your music education at BMA there will be so many things for you to get involved with. As you’ve realised by now, playing music isn’t just about passing exams, it’s mainly about performing and you’ll be encouraged to join rock bands, jazz groups, orchestras, wind bands and lots more. Every December we’ll have a whole week of music making at Bentley Music Camp. One week for Rock School, another for orchestra and so on.

Any Must Do’s or Haves?
Only a couple. You see if you’re going to learn how to play music, you need to learn how to read it, particularly if you’re learning a classical instrument such as violin or piano. So all classical students MUST attend weekly group theory class. But don’t worry, each class is only for an hour and there are plenty of time slots to choose from.

If you’re a drums or electric guitar student then you have a choice. You can either opt for theory class or one hands on percussion class per month where you’ll learn how to develop rhythm and how to play with others by listening carefully and playing as a team.

Another thing of course is that pretty soon after starting to learn, you’re going to need to buy your own instrument as you need to practice every day. But don’t worry, your teacher and our retail staff in our showroom downstairs can help you make the right choice.
