Courses Offered
Bentley Music Academy offers the widest possible range of music instruction in both individual and group lessons.
Individual Lessons – From beginner to diploma level
Stringed Instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Classical Guitar
Piano: Classical, Jazz, Social playing for adult learners and returners
Woodwind: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Oboe, Bassoon
Brass: Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba
Vocal: Classical & Contemporary Singing
Percussion: Tuned and non-tuned percussion
Rock School: Acoustic, Electric and Bass Guitar, Drums, Keyboards, Pop Singing
Theory: Music Theory, Harmony and Composition, Conducting
Senior/Semi-Professional Ensembles – Members do not need to be students at Bentley Music Academy. Minimum age unless exceptional circumstances apply: 16. Entrance is by audition or invitation only.
The Bentley Repertoire Orchestra
Minimum ability level: grade 7.
The BRO is a full symphony orchestra comprising senior music students grade 7 or above, diploma holders or those studying for a diploma or music degree and music teachers. Major concerts, including concertos by guest soloists, a full symphony or a major chamber work will be performed at least every three months over two or three nights to paying audiences. The orchestra will also be available to play at functions or other events to gain experience in lighter music.
Rehearsals: Weekly throughout the year (except run up to exams and major holidays) from 8pm to 10.30pm in the BMA Recital Hall.
Harmonia – The Bentley Choir – Minimum requirements: Members must have a reasonable soprano, alto, tenor or bass voice, must have good intonation, clarity, diction (English) and dexterity and be able to read or follow music. Harmonia performs one major sacred or secular work a year with the BRO (above) and a number of smaller concerts singing a wide range of choral music from à capella madrigals to operetta to contemporary works and Broadway songs.
